Ingredients

  • 4 garlic cloves 24g, minced
  • ½ cup hot honey 125ml
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce 63ml
  • 1 tsp powdered ginger
  • cup water 83ml, divided
  • 1 tsp cornstarch 5g

Equipment

  • Small sauce pot
  • Knife & cutting board
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spoon or whisk

Method

  1. On the stovetop, place a small sauce pot on medium heat, add the hot honey along with the soy sauce.
  2. Next, add in the minced garlic and stir the sauce until it smells aromatic.
  3. Afterward, mix in the powdered ginger and combine well.
  4. Then bring the sauce to a low simmer for a few minutes and then reduce the heat to low for about 10 minutes.
  5. In a bowl or measuring cup, add most of the water to the cornstarch to create a smooth slurry.
  6. You can then pour your slurry into the pot and mix well.
  7. Bring your sauce back to a light simmer so that it can thicken and become glossy.
  8. Finally, remove the pot from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes. Note that it will thicken a little more as it cools.

Notes

Store the sauce in a sealed container or jar in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. The sauce will thicken as it cools off in the fridge, so to reheat, do so slowly over low heat on the stovetop. Only add a little splash of water at any point if you need to adjust the consistency. Make sure to stir well before serving to reconstitute the sauce back to nice and smooth!
